Interview with Matt Boots
Training Manager - Northshore SES
Q- Why did you join the SES?
My Aunt was a member and she convinced me. She brought me along a lot when I was about 10 when she was doing little bits and pieces around the unit. I helped out with the Christmas Pageant when I was 16
and decided to make it official when I turned 18.

Q- Why do you like being an SES member?
The reasons have changed over the years but I think the general feeling of helping people and also our members is really good. Plus all the fun stuff we do as well.

Q- What makes you come along to training week after week?
I control all the training and if I don't turn up, they beat me up.

Q- Give an example of your best & most rewarding experience with the SES.

Planning and running the weekend training camps. Everyone says they enjoy them and get something out of them so that makes me feel pretty good and makes me want to try to better each one.
Everytime you finish a job and get the gratitude of the public is the best and most rewarding experience.

Q- Have you had any bad, embarrassing or frightening experiences with the SES that you would like to share?
Yes and I think everyone knows what it is. You will just have to join and find out if you don't know.

Q- Goals for yourself as an SES member, and for the Unit as a whole?
To better myself and the unit.

Q- Write a paragraph about yourself and you life outside the SES.
I work at Charlie Gairdners and I'm an active competition shooter. Currently I'm the Rifle Clubs' Vice President and SSAA(WA) Senior State Delegate for Scoped 3 Positional & Field Rifle. I have competed all over Australia and also the United States.
