Interview with Michael Wood
Member - Northshore SES

Q- Why did you join the SES?
Ha ha ... I have a penchant for orange overalls..
No, sorry, aspects of SES work relates to my role with Town of Vincent, and I wanted to take an opportunity to help the community.

Q- Why do you like being an SES member?
I like learning the practical skills & commanding a team. Also, every callout is a different challenge - you never know quite what you will be doing next, or where you will be going.

Q- What makes you come along to training week after week?
The possibility of tasting some of Rhonda's scones and other hors d'oeuvres....  But apart from food... learning different experiences and skills, whether it be handling equipment, driving the SES vehicles or working with a team to derive the best outcome.

Q- Give an example of your best & most rewarding experience with the SES.
Being a team leader and having to rescue a casualty from the Northshore unit roof in an exercise. Cant say that I did everything correctly, but it was definately a case of learning under pressure..!

Q- Have you had any bad, embarrassing or frightening experiences with the SES that you would like to share?
None that I want to share....
But no, nothing bad, embarrassing or frightening...... yet!

Q- Goals for yourself as an SES member, and for the Unit as a whole ?
To gain more experience and to become team leader. To increase my understanding of handling tools and equipment correctly and using vehicles effectively. To assist the unit in becoming more contemporary and attracting and retaining a greater membership.

Q- Write a paragraph about yourself and you life outside the SES.
Love my work, even the long hours. I have two beautiful children. Am currently renovation our house. I enjoy good company and a great bottle of red. Am fortunate to have great family and friends. I lead a pretty full on life but would not have it any other way.
