Vehicle saves occupant from serious injury after tree falls
Atmidday on Tuesday 13th May, Northshore SES volunteers received a call reporting that a tree has fallen onto parked car in Perth CBD. Arriving at the scene, the SES rescue team saw that one tree had fallen directly across a car park and over three parked vehicles.
Deputy Local Manager,Nick Elliott said 'The tree had fallen across three vehicles. One vehicle sustained little or no damage, one suffered a dented roof and bonnet, and one vehicle was totally destroyed by the tree. There was little to no root visible on the tree, and it was only a matter of time before it fell'.
Nick added 'The owner of the severely damaged car was just getting out of the vehicle as the tree fell. Sustaining no physical injuries, the vehicle roof supports provided enough structural strength to protect the (incredibly lucky) occupant from the impact.'
The clear-up effort took the SES chainsaw operators around an hour.
